Two Famous Duels –Two Celebrated Trials
Dr David Pugsley is a specialist in the history of duelling. He is the author of An Introduction to the Law, Practice and Etiquette of Duelling in English Legal History. This talk tells the story of the 1803 duel when Colonel Robert Montgomery was fatally wounded by Captain, later Rear Admiral, James MacNamara, one time resident of Spring Garden in Station Road beside the Woodlands Hotel. David will also provide a dramatic account of the last known duel in Devon, when Judge John Jeffcott fatally wounded Dr. Peter
