Annie leigh Browne - Sidmouth Heroine

Annie Leigh Browne was a remarkable woman. For many years an active member of the Sidmouth branch of the National Union of Women Suffrage societies, she helped establish hospitals and education establishments to empower women. In February 1907 she joined over 3,000 women marching for suffrage in what became known as the “mud march”. She dreamed of a future where women’s rights went from strength to strength and in July
1928, her dream became reality when women were finally enfranchised. Lesley Emery is a writer and performer who brings Annie back to life, explaining how women’s lives have changed in the last 100 years and what still remains to be achieved.
