A Reappraisal
Most people have heard of the Devon folk song “Widecombe Fair“ This celebratory talk, which will include renditions of some Victorian variants, will chronicle the ways in which this most famous of Devon’s songs became embedded into society. Todd Gray, who has researched the origins of the song, will also explain how it generated the well-known phrase “Old Uncle Tom Cobley and all” through some unlikely individuals such as Albert Einstein, Karl Marx and Joan Collins!
